Ukrainian drones target high-rise in Russia’s Kazan, injuring at least three

At least seven Ukrainian drones targeted the Russian city of Kazan, striking residential buildings early on Saturday.

The attack, which injured at least three people, is one of the most significant assaults on the city since the start of the war.

According to Telegram channel SHOT, two drones hit a 37-storey apartment building in the city centre.

The drones struck within an hour of each other, causing substantial damage. Tatarstan’s Premier Alexey Pesoshin visited the site later on Saturday, as reported by state news agency TASS.

Another residential building was also hit, with three explosions reported by independent outlet ASTRA. Video footage shared by the outlet appears to show a drone crashing into the roof of a four-storey building in the city.

The blasts triggered a temporary closure of Kazan’s airport to ensure flight safety, said Rosaviatsia, Russia’s civil aviation authority. Local schools were also evacuated, according to RBC.

Kazan is located more than 1,000 kilometres from the Ukrainian border. The region has seen a rise in Ukrainian drone strikes since April, when a dormitory was targeted in Tatarstan, injuring 13 people.
