The Sindh government, under the Department of Sports, organized the Karachi Donkey Cart Race, where 'Sartaaj', a donkey, emerged victorious for the second consecutive year.
According to Express News, the race, which began at ICI Tower on M. A. Jinnah Road, saw Sartaaj, belonging to Arif from Liaquatabad, clinch first place and win a prize of PKR 100,000. Previously, Sartaaj had also won the Champions Donkey Cart Race.
'Bijli', ridden by Tariq, secured second place, while Kala, ridden by Zakir, took third place. Chai Pati, ridden by Asghar, finished fourth.
The second-place winner received PKR 75,000, third place earned PKR 50,000, and the next four positions were awarded PKR 25,000 each. Over 40 donkey carts participated in the race.
The event concluded at the Fair Hall with a prize distribution ceremony. Secretary of Sports, Abdul Aleem Lashari, was the chief guest and distributed the prizes and shields.
He announced that the Sindh government has decided to register owners participating in the donkey cart races. Following this registration, financial and administrative support will be provided to the riders. Lashari emphasised that alongside promoting donkey cart races, the welfare of animals must also be prioritized.
He further stated that the government will continue to promote the donkey cart race in Sindh and provide opportunities for young talent in sports to flourish.
