Pakistan's Saim Ayub breathed a sigh of relief after tests confirmed his ankle injury, though serious, poses no long-term damage, Express News reported.
The injury, which occurred during the match against South Africa, led to a fracture in Ayub's ankle. In response, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to send him to London for a comprehensive medical assessment to ensure he receives the best care possible.
Saim Ayub, accompanied by assistant coach Azhar Mahmood, underwent a thorough check-up with Dr. Jeyaseelan, who reviewed his test results and reports.
Following the consultation, Ayub shared that the doctors assured him the injury had not caused major damage, and his condition had normalised. He also mentioned that he had been given permission to put weight on the injured foot.
However, Dr Jeyaseelan recommended six months of complete rest for Ayub, with further consultations from a panel of specialists, who will assess additional reports, X-rays, and determine the next steps in his recovery plan.
While Ayub's participation in the upcoming Champions Trophy remains uncertain, the final decision on his inclusion in the provisional squad will be made after additional consultations with medical specialists in London.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has been closely overseeing Ayub’s recovery, ensuring that he receives the highest level of care.
Naqvi expressed his full support for Ayub, calling him a “valuable asset” to Pakistan cricket, and confirmed that all necessary resources will be provided for his recovery.
He also wished Ayub a swift recovery and stated that he would remain in constant communication with the doctors handling his treatment.
